I am a professional traditional Japanese woodblock printmaker working out of my studio near Oxford, UK .
After seeing my first Japanese woodblock print in a gallery in 2014, I spent the next few year dedicating myself to learning and gaining as much knowledge as possible. I am almost completely self taught, using the fantastic videos by David Bull as my main point of reference in addition to “reverse engineering” the small collection of prints that I had purchased.
In the summer of 2017 I was contacted by Jed Henry with the proposition of collaborating on a print together as a test to see if my ability was at an appropriate level to start a professional relationship. Over the next 6 years, Jed and I have created dozens of designs together and I have personally carved and printed many hundreds of editions of each of them.
at the start of 2019 I made the decide to make this wonderful craft my sole occupation, leaving my job as a traditional carpenter and joiner. I built my own dedicated studio and now work every day to create the best prints possible for people to enjoy all over the world.
As of this year (2023) I now work in close collaboration with Jed Henry whilst producing my own prints - both reproductions of classical Ukiyo-e design as well as works of my own design. I have recently taken the steps to start to work on a commission basis with other designers as printmaker for hire.
